Tips from Trinity
We hear it on almost every doorstep: "It's not leaking, so it must be fine." It makes sense β that's how most things work. A leak means a problem, no leak means no problem.
A roof is different. Here's why.
HAIL BRUISES, IT DOESN'T PUNCTURE. A hailstone doesn't put a hole in your roof. It knocks the life out of the shingle β cracks the fiberglass mat underneath, shakes the granules loose. From the driveway it looks like a roof. From up top, it's a shingle that's lost years off its life in ten minutes. The water doesn't come in today. It comes in through the first hard north wind of winter, when that weakened shingle finally gives.
THE WIND WORKS THE SAME WAY. A storm can lift a shingle enough to break the seal and set it back down looking normal. It's fine until the next storm lifts it a little further. That's how a roof goes from "a repair" to "a replacement" β one storm at a time, quietly.
AND THE LEAK IS NEVER WHERE THE DAMAGE IS. By the time there's a water stain on your ceiling, the water has been traveling. The stain is where it came out. The hole is somewhere else. That's why we never guess from the ground β we get up there and take photos.
The fix is the same one we tell everybody, and it takes ten minutes: we get on the roof, we document what we find, and we show you the photos ourselves. If it's a repair, we'll say repair. If it's nothing, we'll say nothing and mean it. And right now is exactly when to check β after hail season, before the first cold rains show up.
