How to Spot a Storm Chaser in 30 Seconds

September 26, 2026

Storm season in Texas never really ends, and neither do the trucks that show up after one. Sometimes the same week your shingles do.

Most of the folks who knock on your door are honest, local, and trying to help. Some aren't. You can tell the difference in about thirty seconds — if you know what to listen for.

THE PLATES AND THE SIGN. A truck registered three states away and a yard sign printed last week is a business that will be gone by June.

THE LEFTOVER MATERIALS. "We had materials left over from a job down the street" is a classic. Nobody has leftover shingles for your exact roof, at a discount, timed to your storm.

THE DOORSTEP SIGNATURE. An honest roofer writes it down and comes back. Anyone pressuring you to sign over your insurance paperwork before they leave the porch isn't doing you a favor. And if anybody offers to "eat your deductible" — that's not generosity, that's against the law in Texas, and it should tell you how they'll do everything else.

THE ADDRESS. Ask where their office is. "We work out of the truck" means the warranty works out of the truck too.

That's the whole test, honestly. Storm chasers leave. Neighbors stay.

If a storm came through your neighborhood this year — or you've just never had anybody up there — the move is the same one we tell everybody: the free ten-minute inspection. We get on the roof, we document what we find, and we show you the photos ourselves. If it's a repair, we'll say repair. If it's nothing, we'll say nothing and mean it. Book it by calling (469) 202-4892.
